in dogs as they will slow down on their daily walks and may even develop a limp. Cats which are more sedentary tend to hide their signs better: they may simply spend more time sleeping or jump up onto tables and benches less often.

Osteoarthritis can cause pain and discomfort. But luckily there are treatments available. As well as antiinflammatory medications, there are also injections which can help repair the joint cartilage as well as further reducing pain and inflammation. These are initially given as a set of four injections, each given 5-7 days apart. During the colder months, it is common to give a repeat course of these injections as this is when arthritis can flare up.

Signs of osteoarthritis for Dogs:

• Difficulty keeping up on walks

• Reduced interest in play

• Stiffness when getting up/lying down

• Limping

• Trouble getting in and out of the car

Signs of osteoarthritis for Cats:

• Change in demeanour e.g. more irritable

• Grooming less

• Toileting outside of the litter box

• Trouble jumping on and off surfaces

• Sleeping more
